Claude Certification in 2026: All 4 Anthropic Exams, Who Can Take Them, Cost and How to Prepare

Claude certification is Anthropic’s official certification program for Claude AI: four proctored exams, from the $99 Associate to the $175 Architect: Professional. Right now only people at Claude Partner Network companies can register. Below is every Anthropic certification, the eligibility rule, cost, renewal, the free alternatives anyone can take, and how to prepare.

How this guide was made. I haven’t taken any Claude certification exam, and I can’t: registration is limited to people at Claude Partner Network companies, and the network’s application asks for a registered business with 10 or more employees. Everything here comes from Anthropic’s own pages: the Partner Academy certification hub, FAQ and policies, and the four published exam guides. Our practice questions are original, written from those public guides. No exam recall. No dumps. Ever.

All four share the same rules: 120 minutes, a 720 pass mark, closed book with no notes, documentation or AI assistants, and delivery through Pearson VUE. What changes is the audience, the number of questions and the price. Architect: Foundations came first, on March 12, 2026. Anthropic announced the Associate, the Developer and Architect: Professional on July 23, 2026.

The four Claude exams, one by one

Claude Certified Associate: Foundations (CCAO-F)

The Associate is the only Claude certification built for non-developers. Anthropic’s exam guide aims it at people who use Claude as a productivity tool and build Claude Projects in roles like operations, marketing, project management, education and communications, plus consultants who help clients adopt it. No software development or API experience is needed.

It isn’t mainly a prompting test. The heaviest of its seven domains is Output Evaluation and Validation at 21%, followed by Workflow Integration and Solution Design (16%) and Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use (15%). It costs $99 and it’s the one Claude certification that doesn’t count toward a firm’s Claude Partner Network tier.

Claude Certified Developer: Foundations (CCDV-F)

The Developer exam is for engineers who build, integrate and ship Claude applications, agents and workflows. The guide recommends one to five years of software engineering, at least six months of hands-on work with Claude or a similar LLM, Python or TypeScript, and comfort with REST APIs and command-line tools.

A third of the exam, 33.1%, sits in one domain: Applications and Integration. Model Selection and Optimization (16.8%) and Agents and Workflows (14.7%) come next. It has the fewest questions of the four, 53, and costs $125.

Claude Certified Architect: Foundations (CCAR-F)

Architect: Foundations was the first Claude certification, launched with the Claude Partner Network on March 12, 2026. It’s for solution architects who build production applications with the Claude Agent SDK, Claude Code and MCP. The guide describes a typical candidate as having 6+ months of hands-on experience with those tools.

It’s scenario-based: each exam form draws 4 scenarios from a published bank of 6, such as a customer support resolution agent and a multi-agent research system. The heaviest domain is Agentic Architecture and Orchestration at 27%. The price rose from $99 to $125 on June 30, 2026, when the exams moved to Pearson VUE (what changed in the Pearson VUE move).

Claude Certified Architect: Professional (CCAR-P)

Professional is the advanced credential, for mid- to senior-level architects, AI engineers and tech leads who deliver Claude systems at enterprise scale. The guide recommends 3+ years in systems architecture and 6+ months with Claude or a similar LLM in production. Its 63 questions cover seven domains. Integration (19%) and Solution Design and Architecture (17%) are the largest, and 14% goes to Stakeholder Communication and Lifecycle Management, so it tests more than technical design.

You don’t need Foundations first, and Foundations doesn’t upgrade to Professional automatically: they’re separate exams. For both architect levels side by side, see our Claude Certified Architect guide and CCAR-F vs CCAR-P.

Who can take a Claude certification?

Only people who work at a Claude Partner Network organization. Anthropic’s certification FAQ says certification is currently available only to organizations in the network, and that customers and non-partners can’t certify yet. You register on Anthropic Partner Academy with your company email on a domain recognized on your firm’s partner record. Personal email addresses don’t work, and you must be at least 18, checked against a government ID.

That’s why so many people go looking for the exam and then can’t sign up. Freelancers, students and employees of companies that aren’t partners are locked out for now, whatever their skill level.

How a company joins the Claude Partner Network

Joining is free. Anthropic’s partner application says a company should:

  • Be a registered business with 10 or more employees
  • Operate in a supported region
  • Offer consulting, implementation or managed services to customers

New members start at the Registered tier, with a commitment to certify at least 10 practitioners. Higher tiers are measured partly on active certified people: at least 10 for Select, 100 for Preferred and 1,000 for Global Premier, plus customers in production and public customer stories. Firms apply at claude.com/partners.

If your work email domain isn’t recognized when you sign in, Anthropic’s partner support can add it, but the FAQ says that record change takes 7 to 10 days, so sort it out well before exam day. The full eligibility story, including what to ask your employer: who can take the Claude certification.

Not at a partner? What you can do instead

  • Take the free Claude Academy courses. Anthropic’s public catalog at academy.claude.com is free, works with a personal account, and awards a completion badge for courses such as Claude 101, Claude Code in Action, Building with the Claude API and Introduction to Model Context Protocol. Those badges don’t expire.
  • Ask your employer to apply. If your company has 10 or more employees and offers consulting, implementation or managed services, joining the network costs nothing.
  • Earn an AI certification that’s open to everyone. AWS, Microsoft and Google Cloud sell AI exams anyone can book. Start with which AI certification to get first, generative AI certifications compared or free AI certifications.
  • Learn the material anyway. Anthropic’s exam guides are public, and our study guides and practice questions are open to everyone, so you can build the skills now and be ready if your situation changes.

Claude Academy certificate vs Claude certification

These two get mixed up all the time. Anthropic runs two separate programs with similar names, and only one of them makes you a Claude Certified Associate, Developer or Architect.

A retake costs the full fee again, with your tier discount applied. Anthropic doesn’t publish promo codes or sell bulk vouchers yet; its FAQ says a voucher storefront for partners is in progress. Once you register, the registration stays valid for five years, so you don’t have to sit the exam right away. Rescheduling or cancelling is free if you do it at least 48 hours before your appointment, according to the FAQ.

Full breakdown, including what a fail and retake really costs: Claude certification cost. Looking for a code: Claude certification vouchers and partner discounts. Comparing with other vendors: what AI certifications cost.

How long is a Claude certification valid?

Twelve months from the date you earn it, for all four. Renewal is free if you do it on time: you pass an open-book, non-proctored online assessment on Partner Academy, and you can retake it as often as you need. Each renewal adds 12 months from your current expiry date. Let it lapse and you pass the full exam again at the full fee.

Twelve months is short. Microsoft’s associate-level certifications also last one year, while AWS AI certifications last three. Claude certifications earned before June 30, 2026 under the old six-month rule were extended to 12 months automatically. Details and a month-by-month plan: Claude certification renewal and expiry. How to register for a Claude certification exam

  1. Confirm your company is in the Claude Partner Network and your work email domain is on its partner record.
  2. Open the exam’s page on Anthropic Partner Academy. Download the exam guide and read the terms and exam policy.
  3. Click Register for the exam, sign in with your company email and pay. Your tier discount shows at checkout.
  4. Watch for two emails from Pearson VUE with your username and a temporary password, then sign in and accept the candidate agreement.
  5. Schedule online proctoring through OnVUE, or a seat at a Pearson test center.
  6. On exam day, bring a government ID that matches your registered name exactly. Your score appears on screen at the end, and if you pass, Credly emails you to claim your badge.

One catch on location: candidates with an ID from Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Russia, Syria or restricted regions of Ukraine can’t use online proctoring and must test at a Pearson center. Pearson also suspended exam delivery for residents of Iran from September 8, 2026.

Which Claude certification should you take first?

If you…Start with
Use Claude every day for business work and don’t write codeAssociate: Foundations (CCAO-F)
Write code that calls the Claude API or builds agentsDeveloper: Foundations (CCDV-F)
Design agent systems and configure Claude Code and MCP for a teamArchitect: Foundations (CCAR-F)
Lead enterprise Claude delivery, including governance and stakeholdersArchitect: Professional (CCAR-P)

There are no formal prerequisites, so you can start at any level. Anthropic calls Foundations the natural place to start for architects, but you can take Professional without it. If your firm is certifying people to climb partner tiers, remember that the Associate doesn’t count toward tier standing and the other three do. For the honest case for and against: is the Claude certification worth it?

How to prepare for a Claude certification

Anthropic’s exam guide is the authoritative source for what each exam covers, so build everything around it. A sensible order:

  1. Read the exam guide. Each one lists the domains, their weights and the task statements, plus sample questions with answers and rationale. The practice exam on the old platform was retired in the June 30 move to Pearson, so those sample questions are the only official practice.
  2. Take the free prep courses. Anthropic Partner Academy lists a prep course for each exam: 8 courses for the Associate, 5 for the Developer, seven existing courses for Architect: Foundations (including Claude Code in Action and Introduction to MCP), and a five-part path for Architect: Professional.
  3. Get hands-on. Every guide recommends real experience. For the Associate that means using Claude and Claude Projects at work (our tour of the Claude features most people never find is a quick start); for the technical exams it means building with the API, the Agent SDK, Claude Code and MCP.
  4. Work your weakest domains, then test yourself. Use our free study guides to go domain by domain, then timed practice to see when you’re ready.

Is there a Claude Code certification?

Not as a separate exam. Claude Code is tested inside two certifications: Claude Code Configuration and Workflows is 20% of Architect: Foundations (CCAR-F), and Claude Code is a 3.1% domain on Developer: Foundations (CCDV-F). If you want something with Claude Code in the name that anyone can earn, the free Claude Academy courses Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in Action each award a completion badge.

A warning about dumps and look-alike prep sites

Search results for Claude exams are crowded with sites whose names suggest they’re Anthropic, and some sell what they claim is real exam content. Anthropic’s exam policy treats all exam content as confidential, counts using leaked questions or answers as misconduct, and lets Anthropic revoke a certification or ban a candidate from the program for it.

Stick to the exam guides, Anthropic’s free courses and original practice questions. Ours are written from the published blueprints, never from exam recall. More on why: Claude certification dumps.
