AWS AI Practitioner Exam Cost (AIF-C01): Price, Passing Score, Retakes
The AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam (AIF-C01) costs 100 USD. That is the whole list price for one attempt at a Pearson VUE test center or through online proctoring. You need a 700 on the 100 to 1,000 scale to pass, you get 90 minutes for 65 questions, and if you fail you wait 14 calendar days and pay the 100 USD again.
That is the short version. The rest of this page lays out every number AWS publishes for AIF-C01, and says plainly where AWS does not publish one. If you are budgeting, the realistic figure for most people is 100 USD for the exam plus whatever you choose to spend on prep, which can be zero.
List price
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| AIF-C01 exam, first attempt | 100 USD |
| Each retake | 100 USD (full registration fee) |
| Official exam guide (PDF) | Free |
| Discounts or vouchers | Not published on the exam page |
| Recertification after 3 years | Standard exam fee at the time you renew |
AWS prices the exam in US dollars. Regional pricing in local currency is set at checkout with Pearson VUE. The exam page does not list any promotional discount for AIF-C01, and AWS retake or beta vouchers do not apply to this standard exam, so I would plan on paying the full 100 USD.
Questions, time and passing score
| Exam fact | AIF-C01 |
|---|---|
| Questions | 65 (50 scored + 15 unscored) |
| Time limit | 90 minutes |
| Passing score | 700 on a 100 to 1,000 scaled range |
| Question formats | Multiple choice, multiple response, ordering, matching, case study |
| Delivery | Pearson VUE test center or online proctored |
| Languages | 12, including English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese |
The 15 unscored questions are not marked in the exam. AWS mixes them in to trial future items, so you answer all 65 as if they count. The scaled score means there is no fixed percentage that equals a pass; AWS reports a 700 as the cut line regardless of which exam form you draw.
The five domains from the exam guide, with weightings: Fundamentals of AI and ML (20%), Fundamentals of Generative AI (24%), Applications of Foundation Models (28%), Guidelines for Responsible AI (14%), and Security, Compliance, and Governance for AI Solutions (14%). Over half the exam sits in the two generative AI domains, which is where I would spend most of a study plan.
One 2026 change to note if you were planning to test in Italian or German: AWS retires those two language versions of AIF-C01 after October 15, 2026. English and the other 9 languages continue.
What a retake costs
A retake costs the full 100 USD. AWS does not sell a discounted second attempt for this exam. The after-testing policy sets these rules:
- You must wait 14 calendar days after a failed attempt before you can sit again.
- There is no limit on the number of attempts.
- Every attempt is charged at the full registration fee.
A pass on the second try therefore costs 200 USD total. That is worth remembering when you decide whether to book early or study another 2 weeks first.
How long it stays valid
The AWS Certified AI Practitioner credential is valid for 3 years from the date you pass. To keep it, you recertify before it expires. AWS does not publish a reduced renewal fee for this certification on the exam page, so budget for the standard exam price at renewal time.
What you do not pay for
The official AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam guide is a free PDF. It contains the domain weightings above, the target candidate description, and the list of in-scope services. Read it before you buy anything else. AWS states there are no required prerequisites; the target candidate has up to 6 months of exposure to AI and ML on AWS, and AWS points newcomers to its Cloud Practitioner Essentials or Technical Essentials material first.
Our own AIF-C01 practice questions are also free, weighted to the same 5 domains.
How this compares
| Certification | Price | Questions | Time | Passing score | Valid for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AWS AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) | 100 USD | 65 | 90 min | 700 / 1,000 | 3 years |
| Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-901) | 99 USD (US) | Not published | 45 min | 700 / 1,000 | Does not expire |
| Google Generative AI Leader | 99 USD + tax | 50 to 60 | 90 min | Not published | 3 years |
All three entry-level AI certs cost about the same. The differences are in the fine print: Microsoft’s fundamentals credential never expires, Google does not publish a passing score, and AWS gives you the longest exam window of the three at the same price.
