AIP-C01 Exam Cost: AWS Generative AI Developer Professional Price, Retakes and Renewal

The AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional exam (AIP-C01) costs 300 USD per attempt, plus tax where it applies. If you already hold an AWS certification, the 50% discount voucher AWS gives certified people brings it down to 150 USD.

A failed attempt costs the full fee again after a 14-day wait, and the certification lasts 3 years, after which you recertify by passing the latest version (the 50% voucher works for that too). Here is the full bill, with every number taken from AWS’s own pages.

What each step costs

In local currency, AWS’s Professional-level price is EUR 256, AUD 449, JPY 40,000, KRW 394,575 and CNY 2,113. In India it is INR 25,659, payable only through the Pearson Mindhub voucher store. AWS updates these at least once a year, in May, to track exchange rates, and taxes can apply on top. The 50% voucher for AWS Certified people

AWS’s benefits page says certified individuals get access to a 50% discount voucher to apply toward recertification or any other exam. A few details from AWS’s pages:

• The voucher sits in the Benefits section of your AWS Certification Account.
• You can use it to recertify or toward any future certification exam, which includes AIP-C01.
• Vouchers are single use. A 50% voucher takes 50% off the exam price at the time you book.
• AWS’s policy pages do not say how many vouchers you get or when yours expires, so check your account before you book. AWS also says voucher expiration dates cannot be extended.

This makes the order of exams matter. AIP-C01 alone is 300 USD. If you pass the AWS AI Practitioner first (100 USD) and then use your 50% voucher on AIP-C01 (150 USD), you hold both certifications for 250 USD total. AWS says candidates could benefit from earning AI Practitioner, Solutions Architect – Associate, ML Engineer – Associate or Data Engineer – Associate first, so the cheaper route is also a sensible study path. Beyond the voucher, AWS’s FAQ says it regularly runs discounted-voucher promotions as part of certification challenges, and employers can buy vouchers in bulk for a team. AWS does not publish a standing student or military price for this exam on the pages we checked.

Retakes

From AWS’s After Testing policy:

• You must wait 14 calendar days after a failed attempt before you can retake.
• There is no limit on the number of attempts.
• You pay the full registration fee every time.
• Once you pass, you cannot retake the same exam for two years, unless AWS releases a new version with a new exam guide and exam code.

So a fail-then-pass costs 600 USD at list price, or 450 USD if your voucher covered the first attempt. The beta version of AIP-C01 ended on March 31, 2026, so the standard exam at 300 USD is what you book today.

Rescheduling and cancelling

• You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment without a fee, from the Manage Pearson VUE exams page in your AWS Certification Account.
• Each appointment can be rescheduled only twice. After that, cancel and book again.
• Cancel more than 24 hours ahead and AWS refunds the fee you paid.
• Inside 24 hours, or if you do not show up, you forfeit the fee. A missed appointment does not count as a fail.
• If you paid with a voucher, check its expiration date before you move the appointment.

Renewal: what it costs to keep AIP-C01

AWS certifications are valid for three years from the date you pass. For AIP-C01, the recertification page lists one route: pass the latest version of the exam, using the 50% voucher in your AWS Certification Account. Budget about 150 USD every three years at today’s price. Your certification must still be active to renew, so do not let it lapse. Here is the part most cost guides miss: passing AIP-C01 also renews other AWS certifications. AWS’s recertification page lists it as a way to recertify:

• AWS Certified AI Practitioner
• AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate
• AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate
• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (any Professional-level exam counts)

AIP-C01 is the most expensive AWS AI exam and has the highest passing score, which is the trade for being the only professional-level one. How to keep the total down

1. Use the voucher. If you hold an AWS certification, check the Benefits section of your account before paying full price.
2. Take the free practice set first. The 20-question Official Practice Question Set costs nothing and shows you the question style.
3. Pay for practice only when you need it. One month of Skill Builder at 29 USD for the Official Practice Exam is far cheaper than a 300 USD retake.
4. Move the date, do not skip it. Reschedule more than 24 hours out if you are not ready. A no-show costs the full fee.
