Google does not publish a passing score for this exam, and it does not say whether it uses a scaled score. You get a pass or fail result: a provisional one on screen when you submit, confirmed by Google within 7 to 10 days. Delivery moved from Kryterion to Pearson VUE in early 2026, so older guides that send you to Kryterion are out of date. The 90-minute window for at most 60 questions is generous compared with the NVIDIA associate exams, which give you 60 minutes for the same count.
The exam guide lists four sections with approximate weightings: Fundamentals of gen AI (about 30%), Google Cloud’s gen AI offerings (about 35%), Techniques to improve gen AI model output (about 20%), and Business strategies for a successful gen AI solution (about 15%). Google writes those as approximations, so treat them as guidance rather than an exact split. There are no prerequisites.
What a retake costs
Every registration is paid, so a retake is another 99 USD plus tax. Google’s foundational-level retake policy:
- At least 14 days between failed attempts.
- Maximum 10 attempts per year.
- Payment required with each registration.
The 10-attempt cap is looser than NVIDIA and Microsoft, which stop you at 5 in 12 months, though AWS sets no attempt limit at all. In practice nobody should need that many, but the rule is worth knowing if you are booking on a tight deadline.
How long it stays valid
3 years. For Foundational certifications like this one, Google opens renewal 180 days before your certification’s inactive date, and you can still renew up to 30 days after it. Miss that and you start over with the standard exam at full price. The renewal fee is not listed on the exam page as of September 2026, but Google’s renewal FAQ says you get a 50% off renewal discount code when you first certify.

How this compares
| Certification | Price | Questions | Time | Passing score | Valid for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Generative AI Leader | 99 USD + tax | 50 to 60 | 90 min | Not published | 3 years |
| AWS AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) | 100 USD | 65 | 90 min | 700 / 1,000 | 3 years |
| Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-901) | 99 USD (US) | Not published | 45 min | 700 / 1,000 | Does not expire |
Same price bracket, same 3-year term as AWS, and the same 90-minute window. The one thing you give up with Google is a visible cut score; both AWS and Microsoft tell you 700 is the line. If you are choosing between the first two, our AWS AI Practitioner vs Google Generative AI Leader comparison goes deeper.
