The Salesforce Certified AI Associate certification is retired. Salesforce retired it on February 2, 2026, and you can’t earn it anymore: registration closed March 31, 2025, and the last day to take the exam was May 1, 2025.
Salesforce now points people to two things instead: Agentblazer Status, a free Trailhead program that is not a certification, and the Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist exam. Below is what happens if you already hold the AI Associate, why Salesforce dropped it, and how to choose what to take now.

Checked against Salesforce’s AI Associate Certification Retirement FAQ, the Trailhead AI Associate page and Salesforce Certification Retirements on October 6, 2026.
Why Salesforce retired the AI Associate
Salesforce’s explanation is short. It launched Agentblazer Status, a program to build and recognize AI and Agentforce skills, and as a result it changed its exam catalog and retired the AI Associate. The retirement FAQ describes Agentblazer Status and the Agentforce Specialist certification as the two ways to build and validate those skills now.
Salesforce’s general retirements page adds the usual reasons: keeping certifications aligned with the skills hiring managers want and with the current product line. The AI Associate is the only certification on that page listed as retired in 2026. If you hold other Salesforce certifications, it’s worth a look: Salesforce lists 24 more that retire on February 1, 2027, with exams due by August 31, 2026.
I already have the AI Associate. Do I keep it?
Partly. According to Salesforce’s FAQ, AI Associate certifications earned before May 1, 2025 retired on February 2, 2026. Here’s what that means in practice:
- It stays on your Trailblazer profile, marked “Retired”, as part of your professional history.
- It no longer appears on the Certification Verification page, so an employer can’t confirm it there.
- There’s nothing to maintain. Salesforce removed maintenance requirements for retired certifications.
- No free voucher comes with it. Salesforce says it doesn’t provide courtesy vouchers for retiring certifications.
Our advice: keep it on your resume and LinkedIn, but label it honestly, for example “Salesforce Certified AI Associate (retired by Salesforce, February 2026)” next to the year you earned it. Don’t present it as active. If you need an AI credential an employer can verify today, pair it with one of the current options below.
For Salesforce partners: the FAQ says statuses weren’t switched to retired until February 2, 2026, so FY26 (2025) Partner Navigator Scores weren’t affected. Going forward, Agentblazer Status doesn’t count toward your Partner Navigator Score, but the Agentforce Specialist certification counts toward Agentforce Navigator distinctions.
What to take now
There’s no one-for-one replacement certification. You have three realistic paths, depending on how close you are to Salesforce.
Option 1: Agentblazer Status (free, not a certification)
Agentblazer Status is Salesforce’s free Trailhead program for AI and Agentforce skills. It has three levels, Champion, Innovator and Legend, and each one is a Trailhead trail. As you move up, an Agentblazer badge appears on your Trailblazer profile, and you renew your status each year by completing the latest trails.
The Agentblazer Champion 2026 trail is the closest match to the old AI Associate. Trailhead labels it Foundational and aimed at end users, estimates about 10 hours 43 minutes, and covers AI and generative AI basics, data fundamentals for AI, prompt fundamentals, the Trust Layer, Salesforce’s approach to ethical AI, and building a basic agent. The catch: it’s a learning status, not a proctored exam, so it doesn’t carry the same weight as a certification.
Option 2: Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist
This is now Salesforce’s AI certification. The exam has 60 scored multiple-choice questions (plus up to five unscored) in 105 minutes, you need 72% to pass, and it costs USD 200, with retakes at USD 100. There’s no prerequisite, but it’s a big step up from the AI Associate: Salesforce’s typical candidate has about a year of Salesforce configuration experience, including Data 360, and has built agents and prompt templates.
You may have heard it was free. Salesforce’s FAQ says the Agentforce Specialist exam was free through December 2025 under its AI for All initiative; the current exam guide lists the USD 200 fee. Our Agentforce Specialist study guide covers every exam section and the free Trailhead path, and Agentforce Specialist exam cost breaks down retakes and maintenance.
Option 3: A foundational AI certification from another vendor
If what you liked about the AI Associate was a low-cost, entry-level AI credential, and it doesn’t have to be Salesforce, these are the closest current options:
| Certification | Cost (US) | Exam | Our guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) | $100 | 65 questions (50 scored), 90 minutes | AIF-C01 study guide |
| Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-901) | $99 | 45 minutes | AI-901 study guide |
| Google Cloud Certified Generative AI Leader | $99 | 50 to 60 questions, 90 minutes | Generative AI Leader study guide |
| Oracle Cloud Infrastructure AI Foundations Associate | Free | 60 minutes | OCI AI Foundations study guide |
Facts for these four checked against AWS, Microsoft Learn, Google Cloud and Oracle MyLearn pages on October 6, 2026. Prices exclude tax and can vary by country.

Which should you pick?
- You configure or build on Salesforce and want a certification employers can verify: the Agentforce Specialist. Start with the Agentblazer trails, which is what Salesforce’s exam guide recommends as self-study.
- You use Salesforce but don’t configure it: the Agentblazer Champion trail, then Innovator if you want more. It’s free and covers similar foundational ground to the old AI Associate.
- You want an AI credential that travels beyond Salesforce: one of the foundational certifications above, most often the AWS AI Practitioner or Azure AI Fundamentals, depending on which cloud your employer uses.
- You’re at a Salesforce partner: the Agentforce Specialist, since it counts toward Agentforce Navigator distinctions and Agentblazer Status doesn’t count toward Partner Navigator Scores.
