The Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist certification shows you can build, test and manage AI agents and prompt templates on the Salesforce Platform. The exam has 60 scored multiple-choice questions (plus up to five unscored) in 105 minutes, you need 72% to pass, and it costs USD 200, with retakes at USD 100.
This guide covers who the certification is for, the six sections of Salesforce’s published exam outline and how to study each one, the free Trailhead path Salesforce recommends, and a six-week plan built around it. Every exam fact comes from Salesforce’s own pages. Nothing here comes from the live exam.

Who the Agentforce Specialist certification is for
Salesforce’s exam guide says the certification is for people who design and implement prompt templates and agents. It targets administrators, developers and architects who configure Prompt Builder for grounding, use Data 360 for retrieval, and take agents from testing to production.
The guide’s typical candidate has about a year of Salesforce platform configuration and standard objects, including Data 360. That person has built agents in Agentforce Agent Builder, created prompt templates in Prompt Builder, and knows Agentforce Testing Center and the usual sandbox-to-production deployment patterns.
The guide is just as clear about what you don’t need. Candidates aren’t expected to:
- Have extensive knowledge of configuring or fine-tuning large language models
- Understand the basics of coding languages such as Apex or Python
- Have expertise in external AI tools
- Understand transformer architecture
- Do ROI calculations or white space analysis
- Have experience with Marketing Cloud, Heroku, Agentforce Commerce, MuleSoft, Tableau, Slack, Quip or Industry solutions
So this is a good fit if you configure Salesforce today and your company is rolling out Agentforce. If you have never configured Salesforce, start with the free Agentblazer Champion trail (below) and consider the Platform Administrator certification first. If your company doesn’t run Salesforce, this credential carries less weight; our guide to generative AI certifications compares the platform-neutral and other-platform options.
It is also the Salesforce AI certification to aim for now that Salesforce has retired the AI Associate. Salesforce’s retirement FAQ names Agentblazer Status and the Agentforce Specialist as the two ways to build and validate your AI skills.
The six exam sections (Salesforce’s published outline)
The weights come from the exam guide. The question counts are our own arithmetic on the 60 scored questions, so treat them as approximate.
| Section | Weight | Scored questions (our estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| AI Agents | 35% | about 21 |
| Prompt Engineering | 20% | about 12 |
| Data 360 Fundamentals | 20% | about 12 |
| Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance | 10% | about 6 |
| Governance and Observability | 10% | about 6 |
| Multi-Agent Orchestration | 5% | about 3 |
AI Agents alone is more than a third of the exam, and together with Prompt Engineering and Data 360 it makes up 75%. Below, each section lists the published objectives in plain English, then the Agentblazer trail steps that line up with it and our advice on how to study.
AI Agents (35%)
The published objectives ask you to:
- Explain how an agent works and the basic building blocks of Agent Script
- Explain hybrid reasoning, including how Agent Script works in Canvas view and Script view
- Manage deterministic agent behavior with filters, variables and template expressions
- Select and configure standard and custom topics, and standard and custom agent actions
- Connect agents to channels such as digital experience, email, voice and Slack
- Explain the security context an agent actually runs in, and how it affects action execution
- Decide when to use an Employee agent or a Service agent
- Decide when the Agent API is the right choice
Trailhead steps that match: in the Champion trail, Meet Agentforce and the New Agentforce Builder and Get Hands On with Agentforce; in the Innovator trail, Customize Agentforce and Deploy Your Agents; in the Legend trail, Create Advanced Agent Customizations.
How to study it. Build at least one agent end to end. For every action you add, answer three questions: what triggers it, what makes it deterministic (a filter, a variable) versus left to the model’s reasoning, and whose permissions it runs with. That last question is the security-context objective, and it’s easy to skip if you only read.
Prompt Engineering (20%)
The published objectives ask you to:
- Identify when Prompt Builder is the right tool for a business requirement
- Identify the access controls that govern prompt templates
- Know the considerations for template types such as field generation and flex
- Choose the right grounding technique for a scenario
- Explain how to create, activate and run prompt templates
- Apply best practices for writing effective prompts
- Identify the security and privacy features of the Trust Layer
- Explain how to manage and block access to specific models
Trailhead steps that match: Explore Salesforce AI in the Champion trail (its badges include Prompt Fundamentals, Prompt Builder Basics and The Agentforce Trust Layer) and Get Hands On With Prompt Builder in the Innovator trail.
How to study it. Create one template of each type you meet in the trail and write down, in one line, when you’d pick it. Note that Salesforce uses two names here: the Trailhead badge is called The Agentforce Trust Layer, and its description talks about the Einstein Trust Layer. For general prompt-writing habits, our guide to AI prompting covers the basics in plain English.
Data 360 Fundamentals (20%)
The published objectives are short:
- Explain the considerations of Agentforce Data Library and its concepts
- Explain foundational Data 360 concepts such as chunking, indexing and retrievers
Trailhead steps that match: Ground Your Agent with Data and Manage Your Agent’s Data in the Legend trail. Trailhead’s 2026 updates to that trail added Data 360-Powered Agentforce, Connect Data 360 to Agentforce, and Agentforce and RAG: Best Practices for Better Agents.
How to study it. Two objectives, but 20% of the exam, so learn them deeply. Be able to walk through retrieval in order: content gets split into chunks, the chunks get indexed, and a retriever finds the relevant ones to ground a prompt or an agent. Older study material may say Data Cloud; Salesforce’s current pages call it Data 360.
Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance (10%)
- Test an agent with Testing Center in a given scenario
- Explain how Testing Center evaluations work
- Know the considerations for deploying an agent from sandbox to production
- Know the considerations for deploying a prompt template from sandbox to production
Trailhead step that matches: Test and Monitor Your Agent in the Legend trail. Run a batch of tests yourself rather than only reading about it, and list what has to move with an agent or template when it goes to production.
Governance and Observability (10%)
- Explain how to manage and monitor agents
- Explain agent analytics and how to use them to optimize agents
Trailhead step that matches: the monitoring half of Test and Monitor Your Agent in the Legend trail. Then read the Salesforce Help pages on agent analytics, as the exam guide suggests doing for every outline topic, and be able to say what you would change in an agent based on what the analytics show.
Multi-Agent Orchestration (5%)
- Decide whether a multi-agent architecture is right for scalability and control in a scenario
- Explain the purpose of open-standard multi-agent protocols such as MCP and A2A
How to study it. The smallest section, so keep it light. Be able to say in one sentence what MCP (Model Context Protocol) and A2A (agent-to-agent communication) are for, and when splitting work across several agents makes sense. The exam guide suggests searching Salesforce Help for each outline topic, which is the best route here. The Legend trail’s Develop with Agentforce Tools step covers the developer side of Agentforce.
The free study path Salesforce recommends: Agentblazer Status
Salesforce’s exam guide lists one self-study resource for this exam: Earn Agentblazer Status. The Trailhead credential page points to the same thing under Study & Prepare. Salesforce doesn’t link a separate trailmix for this exam, so the three Agentblazer trails are the official free route. Trailhead itself is free.
| Status level | Trailhead trail | Trailhead’s estimate | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Champion | Become an Agentblazer Champion 2026 | ~10 hrs 43 mins (Foundational) | AI and generative AI basics, data and prompt fundamentals, Prompt Builder basics, the Trust Layer, and your first agent in the new Agentforce Builder |
| Innovator | Become an Agentblazer Innovator 2026 | ~18 hrs 30 mins (Foundational) | Hands-on Prompt Builder, customizing and deploying agents, sales and service agents, and Agentforce for industries |
| Legend | Become an Agentblazer Legend 2026 | ~17 hrs 28 mins (Intermediate) | Advanced agent customization, grounding and managing agent data, testing and monitoring, deploying to Slack, Agentforce developer tools, and a step to become a certified Agentforce Specialist |
Three things to know before you start:
- The trails unlock in order. Innovator stays locked until you finish Champion, and Legend until you finish Innovator.
- Together they take about 47 hours by Trailhead’s own estimates.
- Some Innovator content goes beyond the exam. Discover Agentforce for Industries is useful, but the exam guide says Industry solutions experience isn’t expected. You still have to finish it to unlock Legend, so move through it quickly.
Agentblazer Status isn’t a certification. It’s a Trailhead status that shows on your Trailblazer profile and renews each year. Think of it as the course, and the Agentforce Specialist exam as the test.
A 6-week Agentforce Specialist study plan (the Trailhead route)
This plan follows the Agentblazer trails in order and adds the hands-on work the exam outline expects. Plan on 8 to 10 hours a week, about 55 hours in total. That’s our estimate: Trailhead’s trail times plus review and practice. If you already build agents at work, you can compress it.
| Week | Trailhead work | Exam sections it feeds | Also do this week |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Champion: Get Started with Artificial Intelligence Basics, Explore Salesforce AI | Prompt Engineering | Read the exam guide and turn every outline bullet into a checklist |
| 2 | Champion: Learn Headless Fundamentals, Meet Agentforce and the New Agentforce Builder, Run Your Business with Agentforce, Get Hands On with Agentforce | AI Agents | Build your first agent and open it in both Canvas view and Script view |
| 3 | Innovator: Drive AI Within Your Organization, Get Hands On With Prompt Builder | Prompt Engineering | Build a field generation template and a flex template; write when you’d use each |
| 4 | Innovator: Customize Agentforce and Deploy Your Agents, then the sales, service, headless and industries steps | AI Agents | Connect an agent to a channel; write down how an Employee agent and a Service agent differ |
| 5 | Legend: Create Advanced Agent Customizations, Ground Your Agent with Data, Manage Your Agent’s Data | AI Agents, Data 360 Fundamentals | Explain chunking, indexing and retrievers out loud, without notes |
| 6 | Legend: Test and Monitor Your Agent, Deploy Your Agent to Slack, Develop with Agentforce Tools | Testing, Governance, Multi-Agent | Practice questions, log misses by section, re-study the weakest section, book the exam |

Exam day, retakes and keeping the certification
- Pace. 105 minutes for up to 65 questions is a little over a minute and a half each. Up to five questions are unscored and mixed in at random, so don’t let one odd question rattle you.
- No notes. The exam guide says no hard-copy or online materials may be referenced.
- Retakes. A retake costs USD 100. Within one release cycle you get three attempts: wait 24 hours after the first fail and 14 days after the second. Attempts reset when the next cycle starts, and Salesforce lists the Summer ’26 cycle as running August 27 to December 6, 2026 (dates subject to change).
- Code of conduct. You accept the Salesforce Certification Program Agreement and Code of Conduct at the start of every exam, which is one more reason to skip exam dumps.
- Maintenance. Once you pass, complete the Agentforce Specialist maintenance module on Trailhead every year. Salesforce says the certification expires if you miss the due date. Our free renewal tracker can remind you.
