Google doesn’t publish a fixed number of prompts for personal accounts, because the limit depends on how complex your prompts are, which models and features you use and how long your chats run.

Google rates a simple question as very low usage, long conversations and large file analysis as medium, and Deep Research and video generation as high. Starting a new chat when you change topic saves usage, because Gemini doesn’t have to re-read a long history first.
What happens when you hit the limit
- Gemini tells you when you’re close, and again when you hit it, with the time it refreshes.
- With a Google AI plan, you can keep the conversation going with Flash-Lite.
- Without one, you can wait for the refresh or upgrade. Check your usage any time at gemini.google.com under Settings, then Usage Limits.
Work and school accounts get exact numbers
On a Workspace account, Google publishes daily limits for each feature. Deep Research, for example, is 5 reports a month on Business Starter, 20 a day on Business Standard and Plus, 30 a day with AI Expanded Access and 120 a day with AI Ultra Access. Image generation is up to 20 images a day on Business Starter and up to 100 a day on Business Standard and above.
Does the Gemini API have a limit too?
Yes, separately from the Gemini app. Google’s developer docs say API rate limits are measured in requests per minute, input tokens per minute and requests per day, that they apply per project rather than per API key, and that requests-per-day quotas reset at midnight Pacific time.
