Anthropic has replaced its $200 a month Claude Max 20x plan with a plan called Ultra. The change appeared on Anthropic’s pricing page between our October 29 and November 1, 2026 checks. Ultra costs $200 a month, the same price as Max 20x. Max is now a single $100 a month plan.
Anthropic’s help center says: “Existing Max 20x subscribers move to Ultra automatically, with no price change.” Ultra is described as 10 times the Pro plan’s usage every week, with no five-hour limit for verified accounts, and $200 a month in API credits. Max keeps five times Pro’s usage every five hours and every week, plus $100 a month in API credits.
Who this affects
- Current Max 20x subscribers. You move to Ultra automatically and keep paying $200 a month.
- Max $100 subscribers. Nothing changes in price. Anthropic says an upgrade to Ultra is charged on a prorated basis for the rest of your billing cycle.
- New buyers comparing the two. The old plan was described by its per-session multiplier (20x Pro). Ultra is described by a weekly multiplier (10x Pro) and by having no five-hour limit. Those are different measures, so the two are not directly comparable.
- Developers. Ultra’s $200 a month in API credits is up from $100 on Max. Credits are for the Claude Platform, not extra chat usage.
What to do now
- If you were on Max 20x, check your plan name in Claude settings. You should see Ultra with no new charge.
- The no-five-hour-limit benefit applies to verified accounts. Anthropic says it verifies accounts automatically using account and payment history, and a temporary limit applies until then.
- If you mostly hit the five-hour limit rather than the weekly one, Ultra is the plan built for that. If you rarely hit either, Max at $100 is unchanged.
- Both plans are billed monthly only, with no annual option.
