Free AI Courses With Certificate

These free AI courses with a certificate or a free digital badge come from the companies and universities that build and teach AI: Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, OpenAI, AWS, IBM, Harvard, the University of Helsinki, Kaggle and more. The course finder below lists 36 of them. Filter by topic, level, time and what you get at the end, then pick a few to turn into a 4-week study plan.

We checked every course on the provider’s own page on October 18, 2026: whether it is really free, what the certificate or badge is in the provider’s own terms, and how long it takes. Courses that turned out to be paid, closed to new learners or certificate-free are left out.

How to use the course finder

  1. Filter by topic (AI basics, generative AI, machine learning, building apps, ethics, teaching, business), level and time, or search for a word like “Python” or “teachers”.
  2. Use “What you get at the end” to show only free certificates, free badges, or courses that are free to learn with an optional paid certificate.
  3. Read “You get” and “Good to know” on each card. They say exactly what earns the certificate and what you need first.
  4. Tap “Add to my plan” on up to six courses, then unlock a week-by-week plan paced to the hours you have.

Certificate, badge or certification: what you actually get

  • Free certificate of completion: a certificate you download once you pass. Elements of AI, Ethics of AI, Kaggle Learn, Harvard’s CS50 AI, the Hugging Face AI Agents Course and Google’s Generative AI for Educators all offer one at no cost.
  • Free digital badge or trophy: a shareable badge on a platform like Credly or Accredible, or on your profile at Microsoft Learn, Google Skills, Anthropic Academy or Trailhead. Most of the courses here work this way.
  • Free to learn, paid certificate: the lessons are free, but the certificate costs money. DeepLearning.AI certificates need a paid Pro membership, and the Building AI certificate costs 50 euros.
  • Certification exam: a proctored exam, usually paid, that tests you rather than confirming you finished a course. Our AI certification index compares every major AI exam, and free AI certifications covers the ones you can earn at no cost.

Are free AI certificates worth it?

A free certificate or badge shows that you finished a course, and several, such as Anthropic Academy’s badges, can be added to your LinkedIn profile. It is not the same as passing a proctored certification exam, so treat it as proof that you learned something, not proof of skill.

The best way to use one: pick a course that matches your next step at work, finish it, then use what you learned on a real task you can talk about in an interview. When you want a credential that actually tests you, our guide to AI certifications for beginners covers the entry-level exams.

Frequently asked questions

Are there free AI courses with a certificate?

Yes. Kaggle Learn, Elements of AI, Harvard's CS50 AI, the Hugging Face AI Agents Course and Google's Generative AI for Educators all give a free certificate. Many more, from Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, IBM and others, give a free digital badge.

Is Google AI Essentials free?

No. Google lists Google AI Essentials at $49 a month after a 7-day free trial in the US and Canada, as of October 18, 2026.

What is the difference between a certificate and a certification?

A certificate of completion shows you finished a course. A certification is usually a proctored exam that tests your skills, often for a fee, and it may need renewing.

Which free AI course is best for beginners?

Google's Introduction to Generative AI takes about 45 minutes and earns a free badge. For a fuller start with no math or programming, Elements of AI from the University of Helsinki gives a free certificate.

Do I need to know how to code?

Not for most beginner courses here. Courses on building apps and machine learning, such as Kaggle's Intro to Machine Learning or Anthropic's Building with the Claude API, expect some Python, and each card says what you need first.
