Can ChatGPT make videos?
No. OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app experiences on April 26, 2026, and set September 24, 2026 as the end date for the Sora API. No ChatGPT plan, free or paid, lists video creation now. ChatGPT can still create images, with limited use on the free plan.
If you need AI video today, two of the assistants we track can make it:
- Gemini: Google says every Google AI plan, starting with Google AI Plus, can generate videos with its Gemini Omni model. It’s not on the free plan, and not for users under 18.
- Perplexity: video generation is on Pro (with fewer credits), Max and the Enterprise plans.
Can Claude generate images?
No. Anthropic says Claude doesn’t generate photos or illustrations the way image tools do. What it can do is build diagrams, charts and interactive visuals with HTML and SVG (a beta feature on the web and desktop apps), and read and describe images you upload.
For actual pictures, Gemini includes image generation and editing on its free plan, and ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity offer limited image creation for free, with more on paid plans.

Free plans as of October 18, 2026. Paid plans fill in most of the gaps. The exceptions: ChatGPT can’t make video on any plan, Claude can’t make images or realistic video on any plan, and Microsoft’s pages don’t confirm video for Copilot either way.
What “limited” and “not confirmed” mean
- Limited means the company itself says the plan has limited use, like “limited image creation” on ChatGPT Free. You can try the feature, but you’ll hit a cap sooner.
- Not confirmed means the company’s own pages don’t say either way. We don’t guess, so we leave it unconfirmed until they do.
- Paid personal is the best answer across a company’s paid plans for individuals. Work plans are shown separately, because employers often turn features on or off.
