Image creation is available on every plan, including Free. Plus, Pro and Business also get Images with thinking, according to OpenAI’s help center.
Why there’s no exact number
OpenAI’s help center says image creation, file uploads, voice and data analysis each have their own usage limits, separate from text chat, and that ChatGPT notifies you when you reach one. OpenAI also says Plus limits may vary with system conditions, especially during high demand. We found no image count on OpenAI’s pricing page or in its help center on October 18, 2026, so treat any specific number you see quoted elsewhere with care.
What to do when you hit the ChatGPT image limit
- Wait for the reset. ChatGPT shows the reset timing in the app when it’s available.
- Keep chatting in text. OpenAI says everyday text chat on Free is unlimited, subject to abuse safeguards.
- Use another tool you already have. Gemini’s free plan includes image generation with Nano Banana 2, and the free Copilot app can create images once you sign in, subject to capacity.
- Upgrade if you need more. On Free, OpenAI says upgrading to Plus, Pro or Business resets your usage.
Gemini and Copilot image limits
Google doesn’t publish a daily image number for personal accounts, though it says there is a daily quota of Nano Banana 2 images. Work and school accounts do get numbers: up to 20 Nano Banana 2 images a day on Business Starter and similar editions, and up to 100 a day on Business Standard and above. Microsoft rates Copilot image creation as “Standard usage” on Microsoft 365 Personal and Family, and “Extensive usage” on Premium and Pro.
